The free software was until recently confined to the server infrastructure, primarily for Internet access. Its most visible presence beyond browsers and the success of Mozilla focused on content management.

More and more SMEs have a portal to come forward and present their products. The management of portals and, more generally, content management is possible through a range of free software, from SPIP based on technologies LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP) to Drupal via Joomla !

In general the SME uses a service company which provides installation, development and maintenance in the form of services and on sale of licenses.

We now come to a new stage with the Customer Relationship Management, Software Management Integration where solutions based on mature free software (SugarCRM, Compiere, TinyERP ...). These areas, also as information technology decision-making, which were previously reserved for large accounts, are now the subject of a bid also mature based on free software.

These offers are often designed by experts in the field who have decided to develop solutions based on free software and expand the offer to SMEs. They compete with bids owners who also expand their market to SMEs, with appropriate solutions, lighter ones.

The advantage of free software offer lies in the flexibility and scalability in order fit in better customer needs, in a exchange facilitated by the fact that these SME are contractors.
